I was playing around with some watered down ink and a brush while I was watching old X-files episodes with my friend Katie, and these were the only two that turned out being semi-presentable. Most of it was just me having fun putting down all sorts of wavy lines. Painting with ink is very fun. Relaxing too. I didn't feel like scanning these (I'm a lazy bum) so I just snapped a quick picture with my digital camera, hence the funky colors. The paper is really white, not blue. Anyhow, that's enough explanation for something as simple as some doodles.

A doodle done in Painter with my Wacom tablet, which I am starting to enjoy much more as I keep practicing with it.

Mermaids have always been a favorite mythical/fantasy subject of mine, ever since I was a little girl. However, I long ago grew tired of seeing the stereotypical type of mermaid (think The Little Mermaid). That style isn't a bad thing (in fact, The Little Mermaid is my favorite animated movie), but with this drawing I wanted to make her look more aquatic. That's why I gave her webbed hands, more scales on the body, the blue and green tones, and the more elaborate fins. I also wanted her to look sort of like a cartoon character, semi-2D, as sort of a nod to my favorite animated mermaid. I wasn't going for a totally realistic look, and I like the result of this approach. Overall I'm pretty happy with this picture. I drew this on paper, inked it, and then colored it in Photoshop.

While I was having a lazy Sunday today, I drew a picture of Frodo. Just pencils, nothing fancy. I used a picture from the LOTR: Official Movie Guide book for reference.

More sketches for your viewing pleasure. First up is some kind of fire elf woman. Crayons are fun.

Next we have a sketch from yesterday at the beach.

And lastly, a pirate woman who was drawn during the incredibly long (I think it was close to 10 unbearable hours) drive home today. Now it's off to unpack my clothes and junk. Yee ha.

I do occasionally post Photoshop "doodles" here. I'm thinking of maybe using this for a new layout at Ithildin or for a wallpaper or something like that. It still needs a little bit of work here and there, but it's fun stuff to play with when you're bored :-)

It's about time that I put up some drawings for August, so here are two sketches from that handy little sketchbook I've been carrying around with me. There is also a finished image of Pippin that I recently uploaded over at Ithildin if you feel like checking that out.
