Heh. It was a slow day in class today. And the finished Faramir drawing is up at Ithildin.

I need to draw guys more often. I usually wind up drawing girls cause I have more fun with the hair. Just see the Arwen picture for what I mean. But I decided to make myself draw a guy, so here's an in progress drawing of Faramir. I'm using colored pencils. And it's book Faramir, not movie Faramir, which is why he has dark hair.

I colored a lot faster this time. Probably helped that this drawing wasn't as intricate as the Eowyn one. So Arwen's all done. Her hair should technically be darker, but I liked these rich brown tones a lot better. I wanted to go for a warmer color scheme since I've been using a lot of blue tones lately. The benefits of artistic license. ;-) Also, when I inked the drawing I didn't erase all of the pencil lines. It lent a slightly softer and older look to the drawing. It's not extremely noticeable, but it's a nice subtle effect.

This was a drawing done in class on Friday. My teacher was all excited that we would get to have a male and female model on Valentine's Day. With this pose, the guy wasn't holding anything, the female model looked sadder, and she was sitting in a small backed chair, not a bench. But it was Valentine's Day, so I just had to play with the pose a little bit. And my teacher and the models got a kick out of it. I used marker pen and pastels on 18"x24" white sketch paper. We only had a set amount of time to draw the models, so I purposely worked in a very loose fashion. The hands are terrible though. I really need to practice drawings hands more. You can also find some more new drawings from that class over at my portfolio.

Laundry days just seem to be productive sketching days for me. I'm still into the art nouveau thing. And Lord of the Rings. Big surprise, huh? So yes, the woman has elf ears. I think I'm going to color this one to look like Arwen once it's all inked. It's been a while since I colored some brown hair.

Here's the latest assignment for my illustration class, due tomorrow. The assignment was to work from an existing picture that showed emotion and to draw it using only pencil or ink. I worked from an image of Cate Blanchett. It came out pretty good, but I'm getting sick of stippling. I had to do that for my last assignment, too.

I was bored in English class while we were discussing The Odyssey. The chapter with the cyclops was brought up so I decided to include him with my notes. Most of my class notes usually end up illustrated anyways. So here is the evil man-eating cyclops - argh!

More stuff from figure drawing. It's another charcoal on 18x24 white sketch paper. The arm, particularly around and below the elbow, is the best part I think. I can definitely see an improvement in my grasp of anatomy since last year.

02.04.03 Tuesday @8:58 PM EST

I'm glad we're doing more figure drawing in the classes I'm in this semester. I love drawing people. Faces and hair are my favorite parts, feet are my worst. I'm so bad at drawing feet. But this one came out pretty good (because there are no feet in it, haha). My teacher seemed to like it, too. A face and a half he called it. And I know the collarbone looks a bit weird, but it really looked like that. The model is really really skinny. This is just charcoal on 18x24 white sketch paper. Charcoal is fun.

02.03.03 Monday @8:01 PM EST

I was looking at some of the concept art over at the Pirates of the Caribbean web site and decided to sketch a pirate type guy. You can also see him on the new front page for Run to the Ocean. He's too clean looking for a pirate though. I think I need to practice this some more. Have to throw in some bandanas and skulls and crossbones. Arrr matey!
