Here's my latest piratey picture that's in progress.

Just a general note - I'm going to most likely be without FTP access for the next two months, so I won't be posting any new art here in my sketch blog until the end of August. However, I'll still be online checking e-mail and stuff, and I'll still be updating at my deviantArt gallery and my LiveJournal.

This picture is what I've been working on the past few days. It's a promotional one sheet poster for the short film [UN]RAVELLING APOLLO by Kimberly Maurice. She's going to be submitting the film for funding, and the plan is that a spiffy poster will help catch the attention of people. Obviously, the characters pictured in the poster are all hers. This was a fun project to work on as we sent ideas back and forth to each other about how the poster should look. I think it turned out nicely.

These drawings are for a poster design that I'm working on.

Finn's crew had taken a beating. In a rare move, Her Majesty's royal navy had taken them by surprise, killing the pirates' captain in the ambush. Luckily for the crew, they managed an escape under Finn's cunning direction. He even was able to salvage some of the loot, so the expedition wasn't a total loss. Yes, they were burned and yes, they were bloodied. But were they broken? Never.

I'd like to introduce you to Finn (short for Finnigan). He's my newest sailor/pirate character. Finn has suddenly found himself to be the new captain of his ship. He's a tough fellow, and what he lacks in captaining experience he more than makes up for with his quick wit and the ability to think on his feet. This was drawn on watercolor paper with brown colored pencil and then painted over with a series of ink washes. All color was added in Photoshop with my tablet.

A larger version of this can be seen right here.

Also, I strung together a flash animation again of my in progress images for this picture. You can watch it right here.

Prints of this illustration are now available for purchase!

The release of X3 encouraged me to dig out some of my X-men comics to read, and in the process reminded me of my long time fangirl love of Gambit. And that of course inevitably led to me wanting to draw fanart. I've made no secret of the fact that I think the actor Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost) would make a perfect Gambit for a movie. It's a shame that he supposedly turned down the walk on role he was offered in X3. However, that won't stop a fangirl like me from having some fun, so here is Josh Holloway as Gambit. Again. ;)

This picture actually came about because I wanted a Gambit wallpaper for my computer and I couldn't find one I liked, so I finally said heck with it and made my own. This was drawn on watercolor paper with brown colored pencil and then painted over with a series of black ink washes to establish a base for me to work from when coloring. All color was then added in Photoshop using my tablet. I used a picture of Josh Holloway I found online for reference for the face and pose, and I used some of my Gambit comic books for reference for the coat. Yes, I know Gambit's not in full uniform here. I decided to do my own variation on his costume for this and draw something that he could actually wear out in public. The comic artists might love drawing the spandex, but I can't see it actually being all that practical in public. Yes I'm a dork and put thought into the practicality of superhero's costumes.

A larger version of this can be seen right here.

And since I made this to be a wallpaper, I figured it would only be fair if I shared some wallpaper sized versions with you guys. The links are on DA:
- 1024x768 (can be sized down for 800x600)
- 1280x1024
Typical wallpaper usage rules apply - this is meant for use on your personal computer desktop only and is not to be redistributed on other websites or used for backgrounds on websites (ie. Xanga, Live Journal, etc.).
